Four years ago on this day Maria van Kesteren passed away, at the age of 87. Her work has been an inspiration to me ever since I was a student, some 25 years ago. From the moment I met her in person I felt I had to put that inspiration into a typeface, also showing my appreciation. I used the face in two self initiated booklettes and on an invitation for an exhibition where her work is shown among that of like minded artists. Sonnet 18

Firmly believing typefaces speak with their own, particular voice, I design identities, publish books & make typefaces, both commissioned and self-initiated. I've been doing this with love since 1994.
My first type design hero, Eric Gill, is quoted saying 'look after goodness & truth & beauty will look after itself". This is my mantra, so to speak, the foundation on which I build my designs, believing beauty helps getting the message across. Whether it is a corporate identity, a book or a poster, what is said, can best be said beautifully.
